AMHERST – The Northampton girls basketball team came to play on Friday against Amherst in the Pioneer Valley Tip-Off. 

The Blue Devils roared out to a 33-16 lead at the half and pulled ahead 54-29 after three quarters, with Northampton eventually walking away with a 69-40 victory over the Hurricanes at the Mullins Center. 

Bri Heafey had the hot hand for the Blue Devils (3-0), tossing in 20 points while adding six assists. Ava Azzaro finished with 17 points and nine rebounds, Sarah Molnar tallied eight points while Emme Calkins and Chloe Derby each scored six points for Northampton. 

Zola Higham led Amherst with 18 points. Shannon Klaes had a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double, Niyama Adadevoh scored five points while Francesca Sloan and Neena Chinappa both had three points for the Hurricanes (0-3). 

Northampton heads home to play Chicopee on Tuesday while Amherst is off for a week before hosting Monson next Friday.
