
We are informed that there has been a case of the smallpox in Ashfield, and that the town has provided a pest-house. Vaccination, or cow-pox inoculation, affords, we believe, complete security against the infection of the smallpox. It is important that the matter for inoculation be genuine.
โ The Greenfield Gazette says the name of the post office in the south part of Deerfield has been changed from Muddy Brook to Bloody Brook. Letters designed for that office should be directed to โBloody Brook, Mass.,โ without reference to the name of the town.
โ His friends in Northampton will be interested to hear that Lyman W. Clapp of Westhampton, who was seriously injured when kicked by a horse on Monday, Dec. 3, is making a good recovery. Mr. Clapp is still at the Springfield hospital, where he was taken after the accident.
โ Under the new winter schedule of the Northampton Street railway company, cars will run to Easthampton on Sunday once an hour, at quarter of the hour. Returning from Easthampton, cars will leave for this city at 5 minutes of the hour.
โ A petition for a special permit to construct a million-dollar year-round skating rink off North Maple Street in East Hadley was denied by Zoning Board of Appeals Friday night following a lengthy public hearing attended by about 75 persons who jammed the Town Hall conference room.
โ The City Council voted unanimously yesterday to re-elect Robert R. Patenaude as council president and to adopt a set of rules and regulations for the council. Senior councilor Eugene H. Arnold nominated Patenaude to the presidentโs post and within 15 seconds freshman councilor Frances McNulty had made the final motion to close the voting.
