With all the craziness happening in the world, the one peaceful moment of my day is the morning, when I read the comic section of the Gazette newspaper. Phoebe and her Unicorn is my favorite because it’s so simple and it makes me laugh because of its simplicity. After reading it in the morning, I go about my day, a pretty stressful job in which I have one of these comics glued to my planner. When I reach for my planner, Phoebe and Her Unicorn enter my classroom and I smile, one of those motivational moments for a teacher. In Wednesday’s paper, I noticed that the comic page was very different. New comics appear and my favorite comic was gone. This same paper had a front-page article about the church windows on Elm Street. I thought to myself, “What would Pheobe do about this predicament?” — consult with her Unicorn, of course. I bring newspapers to school to do art projects, students look at the paper and immediately look for the comic page. How do I explain to them that a well-drawn and easily comprehended comic with the message of communication, friendship and wonder disappeared.
