On Saturday a letter writer commended Republicans for not rioting after the shooting attack on Trump and contrasted this with the social unrest that followed the George Floyd killing [“Isn’t it amazing,” July 20]. The writer wrote about those demonstrators receiving a “free pass” from the justice system. In fact, according to the Associated Press, over 300 BLM protesters were charged with crimes following those demonstrations. Also, the vast majority of protesters were peaceful. A question, though. Has the writer of that letter heard about what happened at the Capitol, the seat of our government, on Jan. 6, 2021?
