NORTHAMPTON — Running a business downtown can come with its fair share of risks and challenges, but a car crashing into the store is generally not among them.
But that’s what Synergy, a downtown footwear and clothing store in downtown Northampton, had to reckon with on Sunday after an SUV crashed into the shop, shattering its display window.
According to Northampton Fire Chief Andy Pelis, the crash occurred at around 11:47 am on Sunday, with firefighters soon responding to the scene. Though the crash damaged the exterior of the storefront, the building itself was not structurally compromised, remaining intact and not requiring any evacuation from the store. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported as a result of the crash. Despite the incident and damage to the display window and front door, Synergy was back open for business on Monday, continuing to sell wares such as sweatshirts, sportswear, sandals and women’s boots.
“The damage to our display window was pretty big,” said Harley Addams, the store’s manager, in an interview on Monday. “Luckily, we have a second door that customers are able to go through.”
