HOLYOKE — A dog was killed in a house fire that destroyed a home at 4 Magnolia Ave. on Thursday night, though no occupants were injured, according to the Holyoke Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched to the house at around 10:15 p.m. after receiving a 911 call and found heavy fire on the front port and extending to the second floor. A second alarm was called due to the volume of fire bringing the rest of the on-duty apparatus to the scene, the department reported on its Facebook page.

Crews extinguished most of the exterior fire quickly and made a primary search of the home to ensure all occupants were out of the building. Firefighters continued to battle the blaze, which managed to get inside the structure.

Firefighters said all occupants escaped and reported no injuries, though a canine perished in the fire. The property owner is listed as Cedar Investment Group, LLC, according to city property records. The fire is under investigation by the HFD Fire Investigation team and the State Fire Marshall’s office.
