We appreciate your recent articles about the importance of solar energy and completely support the statements made by local installers. The installation of PV panels is still a great investment in improving our environment and significantly reducing energy bills. When PV Squared Solar installed our system in 2016, they estimated that our system “payback” would be approximately eight years. This calculation included state and federal tax incentives. In retrospect we can now report that our actual payback period was closer to 6-7 years. We mainly use mini split units to heat and cool our house and have not paid an electric bill for the past nine years. In fact, we now have a $1,700 credit on our electric bill. Environmental benefits are reported as 97,713 lbs of CO2 emission saved and the equivalent of 738 trees have been planted. The shortsighted political decisions resulting in the loss of critical tax incentives will hamper the ability of some people to purchase solar and will slightly increase payback years but it is still a no-brainer. Save the earth as well as your household finances!
