Two separate automobile accidents on Sunday resulted in fatalities, claiming the lives of an elderly Hadley man and a Hatfield teen.
An 82-year-old Hadley man died Sunday night after being struck by two cars on Route 9 near 73 Russell Road, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s office. The incident, which occurred shortly after 9 p.m., remains under investigation by Hadley Police, State Police detectives and specialized State Police units.
In an unrelated incident earlier that day, a 17-year-old Hatfield teen was killed when the car he was driving rolled over and struck a fire hydrant on Greenfield Road in Deerfield. The crash occurred shortly before noon.
A passenger in the vehicle the teen was driving sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for treatment, according to the DA’s office. The Deerfield Police, alongside State Police detectives and collision analysis teams, are investigating the cause of the crash.
