Nobody could catch Sean Fitzpatrick in the 44th Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championship at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston this week. On Tuesday, Fitzpatrick, who plays out of George Wright Golf Course in Hyde Park, fired a 6-under round of 66 to take a commanding four-shot lead into Wednesday’s final round.
And on Wednesday, Fitzpatrick followed up his 66 with a 4-under round of 68 to shoot a total of 10-under for the tournament. He beat out Crumpin-Fox Club’s Mark Waskiewicz — who finished in second place — by seven shots.
Waskiewicz played extremely well on Wednesday, shooting a 3-under par round of 69 after carding an even-par 72 on Tuesday. He had the highest Franklin/Hampshire County finish.
As for Hampshire County competitors, Galen Fowles bounced back from a 3-over round of 75 with a 72 in round two, slotting him in a tie for seventh place at 3-over for the tournament. Greenfield Country Club’s Andy Lesenski shot 2-over par on Wednesday to also finish 3-over for the tournament.
Ethan Beauchemin of Cold Spring Country Club tied for 20th on the week, as his solid round of 74 in round two put him at 7-over total. Michael Mertes slid inside the cut with a round of 80 on Tuesday and followed it up with a 76 on Wednesday to tie for 38th at 12-over par.
Seth Rosenbloom of Crumpin-Fox Club rounded out local competitors with a 23-over par total score, shooting an 80 on Tuesday and an 87 on Wednesday.
