EASTHAMPTON — Three days after the City Council voted to turn the four-way intersection on Loudville Road, West Street, Glendale Street and Pomeroy Meadow Road from a two-way to a four-way stop, a car was T-boned and flipped onto its side after failing to stop at the same intersection.

Three people received minor injuries after the collision that occurred on Saturday at 3:39 p.m. resulting in major damages to both vehicles, according to Easthampton Police.

A person operating a Honda was T-boned and cited after failing to stop while traveling on Pomeroy Meadow Road toward West Street. The Honda passed the flashing stop sign, causing the operator of a Subaru traveling on Glendale Street to hit the side of Honda. The Honda overturned on its side, hit a guardrail and came to a final rest on the vehicle’s side.

All three people involved were transported to the hospital after the accident. There is no suspicion of drug or alcohol use, police said.

The dangerousness of the intersection has been a topic of discussion in the city for over a decade, and has been home to several accidents over the years, including in December 2023 when a Southampton man died.

There is currently a stop sign on West Street and Pomeroy Meadow Road. Two more stop signs will be added on Loudville Road and Glendale Street. Greg Nuttleman, director of the Department of Public Works, said last week that materials for the project should be acquired by the end of the month and he hopes to begin work as soon as possible.
