The other day I pulled on my old Obama-Biden T-shirt. It had a few holes but I wore it anyway because it reminded me of a time when I thought this country was headed in the right direction. Whatever you might say about the Obama-Biden administrations — and God knows there are plenty of criticisms that could be made — I think it’s worth remembering that presidents set a tone for the country, a value statement that consciously and unconsciously informs the outlook of every individual American. Obama-Biden radiated a sense of hope, diversity, experience, compassion, courage, innovation, resilience, and above all a respect for the individual, the community and the law. In short, a sense of common decency. I’ll keep my old T-shirt, thank you, and wear it proudly.
