Sept. 11 ceremonies in Hadley, Granby

The towns of Hadley and Granby have scheduled Sept. 11 ceremonies next week to remember the 24th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

The remembrance in Hadley will take place at the Hadley Fire Department, 15 East St., in the gravel lot north of the station. At 9:55 a.m., apparatus will roll out of bays and respond to a location in the front of the station for a 10 a.m. ceremony that will include all available emergency personnel for the town. A bell will ring for four sets of five chimes each, followed by lowering the American flag to half-mast and one minute of silence, a prayer, bell rings and raising of the flag.

In Granby, the memorial service will take place at the Public Safety Complex, 259 East State St., at 6 p.m. For more information, contact Todd C Carpenter at tc.carpenter@outlook.com.

A year ago, the Granby Fire Department dedicated a Sept. 11 memorial in front of the public safety complex. The town’s memorial is one of a handful of locations in the world whose memorial is not made of a piece of World Trade Center steel. The main focal point of the memorial is a piece of metal that belonged to one of the many FDNY trucks that were destroyed in the attacks.
