Re-elect Mayor Sciarra

Elections historically are fraught affairs. In 38 years here, I have yet to experience a quiet one. They inspire even the calmest to startlingly emotional heights and behaviors, a development now amplified by social media. To be honest, I have occasionally succumbed to the dramas myself.

Well, we’re in a new election season locally, and things are going true to form. The thing I have gleaned the most comfort from during past campaigns is the fact that time and again, Northampton has made the right choice for mayor. I hope that holds true this time around, although the national trend fails to reinforce that optimism.

Certainly Gina Louise Sciarra is that right choice for me. As she was for us by a notably healthy margin a little less than four years ago.

I know her as a friend and former colleague in Northampton’s municipal government. She is a woman of sincerity, decency, and deep integrity — virtues particularly in evidence as she presided over the City Council during COVID and the outrage inspired by the murders of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd.

Her accomplishments are many; go to glsciarra.com to see a long list of her good work for the community. Her most impressive accomplishment to me personally has been how she’s maintained fiscal stability during a period of significant turmoil.

The preliminary election is Tuesday, Sept. 16. The election is Tuesday, Nov. 4. Please join me to re-elect Gina Louise Sciarra for another term.
