SOUTH HADLEY — At the half, it looked as if the Frontier Regional boys soccer team had everything under control. The Redhawks had peppered South Hadley goalie Noah Carillon throughout the entire first 40 minutes, and controlled much of the possession.
Matt Gillis had other plans.
The Tigers senior buried an unassisted goal in the second half to tie the game at one apiece, which would wind up as the final score as Frontier and South Hadley battled to a draw on Tuesday afternoon in South Hadley.
Henry Pleasant put the Redhawks on the board first, finding the back of the net on a sweet goal that got past Carillon about 10 minutes into the game.
In goal, Jack Cusson stopped six shots for Frontier, while Carillon passed nearly all of the 11 tests that came his way — making 10 saves for the Tigers.
South Hadley (2-4-2) is off the rest of the week and will play on the road against Springfield Central next Monday at 4 p.m.
Frontier (5-2-1) will have Wednesday off before traveling to Belchertown on Thursday for a 4 p.m. contest with the Orioles.
Monson 3, Granby 1 — After trailing 1-0 at the half, the Rams couldn’t keep pace with the Mustangs in a home defeat on Tuesday afternoon. The loss marked the second time Granby fell to Monson this season.
Granby’s goal came off the foot of Brandon Carillon and was assisted by Conor Callery. Daniel Santiago stopped 10 Mustangs shots in the box.
West Springfield 5, Belchertown 0 — The Orioles’ winless streak stretched to three straight after Tuesday’s shutout.
Belchertown, which received 12 saves from goalie Luke Dudek, trailed 3-0 at halftime.
Girls soccer
Smith Academy 5, Mount Everett 1 — The Falcons filled the net five times, a season high, for their third win of the season.
Anna Scagel scored four times to pace Smith, while Emily Pearl potted the other Falcons strike.
Smith goalies Vivian Higeura and Alexa Sikorski combined for 10 saves.
The Falcons moved to 3-3-1 overall.
Smith Voc 2, Holyoke 2 — Tuesday’s tie kept the Vikings’ point streak alive as they have not lost through seven games this season.
The Purple Knights have now picked up points in two straight after losing their first five games of the year.
Monique Fredette and Julianis Suarez (penalty kick) scored for Smith Voc, while Kyra Lippman netted both of Holyoke’s goals.
Kyleigh Luther and Kyleigh Dorman made 10 saves altogether in goal for the Vikings, which was similar to Knights keeper Julianis Suarez’s final save total (seven).
Field hockey
Agawam 4, Belchertown 1 — The Orioles’ second to last independent game of the season was their toughest test to date, as a three-goal road loss to Agawam on Tuesday ended their undefeated streak at seven games.
Edith Audette scored the lone Belchertown goal, assisted by Gianna Zenon. Lila Roy did everything she could in goal with 15 saves against an aggressive Agawam attack.
Smith Academy 6, Mahar 0 — Shae Moulton and Isabella Bramucci’s two goals apiece highlighted the Falcons’ wire-to-wire win over the Senators on Tuesday afternoon, improving the team to 6-1 on the season.
Senior captain Molly O’Brien added in her first career goal for Smith Academy, while Bella Gavron tossed in a goal and two assists. Keeper Chloe Avery made four saves to earn her second straight shutout.
“It was an outstanding game for us on the attacking end,” Falcons coach Karlie Guimond said. “Our offense worked together as a unit and put together some beautiful sequences. Our defense was rock solid in the back as well.”
Cross country
Granby 15, Hopkins 50 (boys): Colby Canson crossed the finish line in 16:13 to lead the Rams in their dual-meet victory past the Golden Hawks.
Deegan Austin-Dietz was Hopkins’ fastest runner, earning a time of 17:13.
Granby 22, Hopkins 32
Hopkins 15, Palmer 50: Caprial DiBartolomeo of Hopkins was the top finisher in the girls race in the tri-meet, finishing in 17:34.
Addy Hill (Granby, 19:00), Rowan Cook (Granby, 21:01) and Emily Cain (Hopkins, 21:05) highlighted area runners behind DiBartolomeo.
Girls volleyball
Smith Vocational 3, Ware 0 — The Vikings cruised to a straight-set win over Ware on Tuesday evening, led by Heidymar Diaz-Lopez’s all-around stat line of seven aces, four kills, seven digs and an assist.
Set scores were 25-20, 25-18, 25-10.
Leah Franklin posted a team-high 13 kills and added a block, Roma Bentrewicz had two aces, dished out 10 assists and dug up six balls and Irelyn Marcoux notched seven kills and five aces. Hecmarie Diaz-Lopez (17 digs, two aces) also played well in the Smith Voc win.
Granby 3, Hampden Charter 2 — The Rams escaped with the five-set victory by the skin of their teeth after surrendering a 2-0 set lead.
Set scores read 25-17, 26-24, 18-25, 19-25 and 15-9.
Golf
Hampshire 163, Mohawk Trail 196 — The Raiders had all eight golfers in their lineup break 50 in an impressive team display on Tuesday afternoon at Country Club of Greenfield.
Colby Cabrini led Hampshire with a 40 while Riley Florek, Nico Johnson and Kameron Locke all shot 41 in the win.
Hopkins 158, Pioneer Valley 196 — A dazzling round of 34 from Ryley Regan propelled the Golden Hawks to an easy victory over the Panthers on Tuesday afternoon at Westover Golf Course.
Aiden Keeling-Lococo turned in a strong round of 40 while Siddarth Palmer and Chace Earle each shot 42 in the win.

Amherst 3, Frontier 0 — Alyciana Hackett had 10 kills, five aces and seven digs for the Hurricanes, who improved to 7-2.
Ava Carey (16 digs, kill, three aces) and Kiko Bhowmik (19 digs, nine kills, five aces) and Olivia Nolan (13 assists, five digs, kill) also performed well for Amherst.
Boys soccer
Easthampton 4, Taconic 1 — Brayden O’Connor’s hat trick helped the Eagles silence the Thunder.
Easthampton goalie Liam Scott-Smith concluded with eight saves.
