George Selanis

Amherst, MA – It is with much sadness that we convey that George J.
Selanis 99, of Northfield Mass. passed away Thursday, the 18th of
September in Greenfield. Born in North Amherst, he attended Amherst
schools, being quite athletic in Football, Baseball and Basketball.
While attending Amherst High, George joined the Navy and served his
country until 1946, as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate.

He became a farm equipment mechanic, working in Sunderland, and then
eventually in Easthampton as well. He was an avid gardener, and loved
to take long rides and explore back roads.

George met the love of his life, Marvette, and they shared many years
together before her passing in 2019. When asked how he managed to live
for so long, his answer would be “my wife”. They settled in North
Amherst and raised 3 children there, until moving to Northfield in
1996.

George is predeceased by his wife, Marvette (Johnson), and his son
Gary (2024). He leaves a son Zane, of Amherst, a daughter Debbie (Ron
Roy), of Maine, granddaughter Rachel (Jacob, fiance) of Montana,
grandson Jake of Westfield, granddaughter Jillian (Jarod) of New York,
daughter in law Linda, of Maine, several nieces and nephews, Rich &
Kathy Alber of Maine, Paul Fisher of Northfield Much gratitude to
Pioneer Valley Hospice. Visitation will be held Thursday Sept. 25 form
10 -11:30 at the Douglass Funeral Service, with burial following in
