- Notice is hereby given that the annual meeting of the Foreign Missionary Society of Northampton and the Neighboring Towns will be holden at the Town Hall in Northampton on Tuesday, the 11th day of October. It is expected that no special business will be transacted on that day and that the meeting will be adjourned to the next day.
- Miss C. Whitney proposes to commence a school on Wednesday, the 28th inst. in the room recently occupied by Miss Hall. Terms, per quarter, are $2.50.

- Ground was broken yesterday for the new garage which Frank C. Magranis, Packard and Chrysler dealer in Northampton, will construct between his former Hudson-Essex agency and the Shaw Motor building on King Street. It is expected that the Magranis Motor Sales company, which will handle the local agency for Packard-Chrysler cars, will be able to occupy the structure about the middle of December.
- Frosty nights and mornings and changing foliage are again with us, reminders of the approach of fall and of the return of the college girls. Another reminder is the semi-annual tearing up of Main Street, which is always a feature at commencement time and again at the opening of college.

- Jimmy Carter, ex-governor of Georgia and candidate for the Democratic Presidential nomination, told a Northampton group last night that he is sure he will be the choice of the New York convention next August. Carter is spending several days in the area to muster support for his campaign and to attend the gathering of Democratic Presidential candidates in Springfield this weekend.
- Gov. Michael S. Dukakis will visit Northampton tomorrow to inaugurate a new hot lunch program for the elderly. Dukakis will participate in a noon luncheon at the recently opened Salvo House elderly housing project on Conz Street. The new program is officially known as the Title VII Highland Valley Nutrition Program.
