Glenn Clark

Hadley, MA – Glenn E. Clark, 95, of Hadley, passed away on July 17,
2025. Born to Edward T. Clark and Pearl Edith Anderson in Gilsum, New
Hampshire, on April 9, 1930, Glenn was the youngest of six children.
He attended Gilsum Grammar School as well as grammar schools in
Connecticut, Vermont, and New York. He graduated from Uncasville
(Connecticut) Grammar School in 1944 as valedictorian. He then joined
the class of 1948 at Keene High School in Keene, New Hampshire, a
school he greatly enjoyed. Active on the track team, Glenn won three
gold medals on the high hurdles, 440 relay and 200-yard dash to help
his team win the 1948 state championship. He was also a state champion
soccer goalie in Connecticut in 1947, where he briefly attended high
school.

Glenn’s first jobs after high school were building houses with his
father and working at the Charlestown Woolen Mill in Keene, NH. Soon
after, he enlisted in the Navy. Following boot camp in Newport, RI,
Glenn wished to attend cook and baker school “so he could eat.”
However, his grades were too high, so he was sent to electronics
school and became an Intercommunications Electrician (IC-3) and was in
charge of ammunition lockers on the USS Mount Katmai.

Before he was discharged from service, Glenn married Geraldine (Gerry)
Trueman in Gilsum, NH, on April 20, 1953, “the best move he ever made
in his life.”

After being discharged from the Navy in 1955, Glenn had a full
scholarship to Bryant College in Rhode Island, but a friend encouraged
him to attend Northampton Commercial College (NCC) in Northampton, MA.
He graduated from NCC, earning a silver tray for being the top
accounting student that year. He went on to attend American
International College (AIC) in Springfield, MA, earning a BS in
Business Administration. While at AIC, he was also inducted into Delta
Mu Delta and Delta Kappa Phi. He went on to earn an MBA from Western
New England College and later a PhD.

Glenn later served as an instructor, placement director, dean and
academic vice president at Northampton Commercial College and was
academic dean at Andover Institute of Business before taking a
position as a professor of finance and accounting and department chair
at Western New England College, a position he held until he took early
retirement in 1990. Along the way, Glenn purchased a garbage business
in the Berkshires that served all schools in Pittsfield, MA; owned a
chain link fence manufacturing business; and a business called Big Boy
Toys.

Glenn served as a Hadley selectman and was active for many years on
various boards and organizations in the area, including the Three
County Fair, the Porter Phelps Huntington House Museum, the Hadley
Farm Museum, the Amherst lodge of the Independent Order of Odd
Fellows, the Hadley Lions Club, and the Hadley Men’s Club.

Glenn leaves his wife of 72 years, Gerry Clark, daughter Caley Barstow
of Portland, Oregon, daughter Susan Clark of Ormond Beach, Florida,
son and daughter-in-law Tom and Sandy Clark of Granby, Massachusetts,
and granddaughters Faith, Eva and Liv Barstow, all of Oregon. A
service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 2 pm at the
North Hadley Congregational Church.
