Greenfield, MA – Marcella "Marcie" Couchon (nee Martell) age 98, passed away in Greenfield on February 10, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Ernest Couchon, her son Thomas Couchon, and her parents, Rose and Rolland Martell. Marcella and Ernest lived in the community of Laurel Park in Northampton for many years and were active members of the community. Marcella was an expert in gardening and neighbors enjoyed the beautiful plants in front of her cottage; especially memorable was her beautiful Moonflower. Marcella loved animals. She took in many a stray cat and kept birds fed during the winter with her birdfeeders. She loved reading and learning and was passionate about women's rights. Marcella is survived by her daughter, several dear friends, a dedicated caregiver, and her beloved cat Matilda. At Marcella's request, Marcella's body was donated to UMass Medical School to support medical education and research. Memorial contributions can be made to Northampton Neighbors, Dakin Humane Society or to a charity of choice.
