The Smith Academy field hockey team’s superb season continues on after it slotted a huge 6-0 win at Mahar on Wednesday.

Bella Gavron tallied three points (goal, two assists) while three Falcons managed a pair of points in Shae Moulton, Sophia Jagodzinski (two goals each) and Ashlyn Moynihan (two assists).

Luke Nguyen also scored (first career goal) for the Falcons.

“Proud is an understatement,” Smith Academy coach Karlie Guimond said. “This team continues to shine and grow each day. Seeing each player make a strong impact today was something special.”

Chloe Avery recorded the clean sheet with a two-save performance as the Falcons improved to 12-1.

Mahar fell to 3-6-2.

Southwick 4, Amherst 3 — The Hurricanes dropped a close one in the defeat to the Rams.

Sophia Soares, Aria Haupt and Chiara Biagi found the back of the net for Amherst. Eden Polak concluded with seven saves in goal for the ‘Canes.

Frontier 2, Longmeadow 1 — The Redhawks picked up their biggest win of the season on Wednesday afternoon, knocking off western Mass. powerhouse Longmeadow behind a goal and an assist from Addie Harrington.

Macy DeMaio also scored a goal for Frontier and Rowan Reilly added a helper. Brooke Charest was tremendous in the cage with 10 saves to hold the Lancers to only one goal.

Boys soccer

Gateway 6, St. Mary’s 1 — Bow Briggs was all over the pitch for the Gators, scoring four times and adding an assist in the road win.

Zack Hess and Josiah Novak each made two saves in goal for Gateway.

Pope Francis 2, Belchertown 1 — The Cardinals clipped the Orioles in Wednesday’s Smith league showdown.

Austin Raymer recorded Belchertown’s single strike.

McCann Tech 6, Smith Voc 4 — A four-goal first half from the Hornets was too much to overcome for the Vikings.

Smith Voc fell to 8-2-1 on the season.

Girls soccer

Smith Voc 3, Smith Academy 0 — Two points from Erin Miller (goal, assist) kept the Vikings’ perfect season alive.

Isabella Letourneau and Fredette Monique also chipped in goals for Smith Voc (9-0-4).

Falcons goalie Vivian Higeura was pelted in this one, concluding with 23 saves.

Belchertown 5, Tantasqua 0 — Aubrey Klingensmith potted a hat trick while Adelina Gualberto and Alexa Karabetsos each distributed two assists in the Orioles’ big win.

Karabetsos and Morghan Litz also scored for Belchertown, which snapped its three-game winless streak.

Frontier 5, Greenfield 2 — The Redhawks received contributions from everyone in a strong performance against the Green Wave on Wednesday afternoon in Greenfield. Madelyn Fagan scored twice and recorded three assists to lead the way for Frontier.

Callie Gifford and Danica Kopzca also scored in the win while Maggie Nichols and Skyler Steele dished out assists.

Pittsfield 3, Holyoke 1 — Wins continue to evade the Purple Knights, whose winless streak moves to four straight after the loss to the Generals.

Holyoke dropped to 3-7-3.

Northampton 3, Brattleboro 0 — Anna Oravec obtained the shutout with six saves for the Blue Devils.

Malia Silver, Olive Little and Willow Claps netted strikes for Northampton while Hattie Lewis dished out a couple of assists.

Lee 5, Gateway 0 — In its penultimate game of the regular season, the Gators were held off the board.

Teagan Campagna and Jayliana Rivera combined for 14 saves in net for Gateway.

Cross country

Gateway 15, St. Mary’s 50 (girls) — The Gators cruised to the dual-meet win at Littleville Dam.

Ava Christie won the 5k course in 23:49 for Gateway, which had eight of the top 10 runners.

Anya Niles (24:07), Savannah Petersen (24:46), Lily Peloquin (28:11), and Charlotte Hansen (28:14) also placed for the Gators.

Granby 26, Hampden Charter 29 (boys)
— The first two finishers were Rams runners, but it was the Eagles who snatched the tri-meet victory.

Trevor Sullivan (17:48) and Colby Carleton (17:53) paced Granby as the first and second-place finishers, however Easthampton brought in the next five runners to take the win.

William Jourdain (18:39), Otto Ewing (19:37), Finley Foster (19:39), Otto Koen (19:46) and Alex D’amours (20:19) picked up points for the Eagles.

Once again, the Rams grabbed first and second place, but the Eagles’ pack was the difference in the girls race.

Grace Cooney (20:46) and Addy Hill (21:24) crossed the finish line first for Granby, then five of the next six runners were from Easthampton. Rowan Cook was the only other Ram to earn a top-10 finish, snagging sixth in 23:12.

The Eagles top-five included Amelia Dodge (21:29), Fern Stauffer (22:13), Gwen Banz (22:21), Liana Leiva (23:18) and Sabine Ritchie (24:07).

Both races were held at Nonotuck Park on a course that measured exactly three miles.

The Raiders took three victories in the quad-meet at Frontier’s 2.75-mile course.

The top five finishers were Luke Howard (Frontier, 15:01), Evan Hedlund (Frontier, 15:01), Ryan Spofford (Greenfield, 15:07), Owen Cubi (Hampshire, 15:08) and Oscar Schiff (Hampshire, 15:20).

Frontier 15, Franklin Tech 50 (girls):
The Raiders swept the quad-meet while the Redhawks picked up two wins.

Four of the first five girls runners to finish were from Hampshire, led by Kathleen Barry’s winning time of 17:48.

Louise Flagollet earned fourth (18:03) for Frontier as its top finisher.

Greenfield and Franklin Tech didn’t have enough runners to produce team scores.

Smith Voc 26, Hopkins 29 (girls) — The Vikings edged the Golden Hawks on Wednesday at Hadley West St. Common.

Sicily Chase (21:44), Lillyana Malloy (23:14) and Mia Marcinek (25:28) snagged three of the top five places in the meet for Smith Voc, led by Chase’s runner-up finish.

Caprial DiBartolomeo won the race in a blistering time of 18:23 (a course record), while teammate Emily Cain finished in third place in 21:57.

Both schools had boys runners, but neither had enough to earn a team score. Deegan Austin-Dietz won the race for the Hawks in 17:39. Jack Johnson came in next for Hopkins in 19:48.

Tristan Feinstein was the Vikings first boys runner, claiming third in 20:03.

PVCICS 23, Mohawk 34 (boys) — The Dragons’ undefeated record remained intact in the victory against the Warriors.

Grafton Tolopko took first for PVCICS in 17:32, before teammates Kristof Knyt (fourth, 18:35), Asa Taggert (18:45), R.J. Allen (18:49), and Ayden Klatte (19:13) came in.

PVCICS 27, Mohawk 30 (girls) — Astrid Knyt led the Dragons in the tightly contested meet.

Knyt took taking second place (21:29), with Ella Maier (21:32), and Eunice Lo (21:33) next in for PVCICS in fourth and fifth place. Adelaide Amias (22:36) and Cathy Chang (23:16) rounded out its top five.

Both Dragons teams celebrated its seniors at the home meet at Hampshire College.

“It was truly a highlight meet,” PVCICS head coach Kevin Brown said. “The weather turned great for us, we had an incredibly supportive crowd, we celebrated our amazing seniors, and the Dragons dominated once again.”

Girls volleyball

East Longmeadow 3, Easthampton 1 — The Eagles forced a fourth set after falling behind 2-0, but ultimately fell to the Spartans.

Set scores were 14-25, 20-25, 25-16, 17-25.

Longmeadow 3, Frontier 0 — The undefeated Lancers looked every bit the part on Wednesday evening, as they dominated the Redhawks in straight sets 25-11, 25-20, 25-11. Longmeadow has only lost one set all season.

Aimee Talbott had five kills, Caitlin Maio put down four and dug up a team-high 12 balls, Cadence Martin tallied 10 assists and Raine Wonsey accounted for half of Frontier’s four aces as a team. Martin and Avah Spearance put down a pair of kills each.

Westfield at Amherst, 6

Pope Francis 3, Smith Voc 2 — Heidymar Diaz-Lopez led the Vikings in the five-set loss.

Diaz-Lopez had five aces, three assists, 15 digs, seven kills and a block for Smith Voc, which suffered its second loss of the season.

Set scores read 24-26, 25-20, 22-25, 26-24 and 15-17.

Golf

Easthampton 144, St. Mary’s 177 (thru seven holes) — Three of the four Eagles’ four scorers broke 40 at Wyckoff Country Club.

Jacob Murrett led with a 31 and was followed by Amelia Gruber (34), Angelo Torchia (39) and Evan Kalin.

Hampshire 169, Frontier 171 — The Raiders narrowly got past the Redhawks at Blandford Country Club.

Colby Cabrini shot a 39 as Hampshire’s low scorer, while Cole Boissoneault (40) and three Raiders golfers carded a 45.

Jacob Cornelison grabbed medalist honors for Frontier, finishing with a 37. Braiden Dion (43), Brady Wood (45) and Jamie McCarthy (46) collected points for the Redhawks.

Boys soccer

Northampton 3, Monument Mountain 0 — Max Stocker, Jasper Cantor and Will Senn-McNally scored the three Blue Devils goals as they pressured Monument Mountain for the entire 80 minutes in a wire-to-wire win on Tuesday.

Bishop Loughrey, Johnny Nields-Duffy and Derek Rivers tallied assists while Salem Gregory’s one save in the box was enough to earn him a shutout.
