My initial choice in this election for Ward 3 City Council in Northampton was Ace Tayloe, someone I hold in deep respect and admiration. Their skill set, compassion, and commitment to fairness for tenants — in both public and private housing — are unmatched. Long before the election season heated up, Ace was at Salvo House, not for a photo op or a quick hello, but to truly listen.

Ace helped organize and participate in the Clean-Up Salvo group — an effort that has grown into two successful community clean-up events, with a third scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18, from 8 a.m. to noon. In addition, as a professional tailor with a creative spirit, Ace helped me organize our “Sew What, Salvo” sewing group, which meets twice a month on the first and third Thursdays from 2 to 5 p.m. Ace remains committed to continuing those sessions once a month, showing their ongoing dedication to community.

Even though Ace Tayloe did not advance to the Nov. 4 municipal election, their impact is undeniable — earning more than 20% of the vote and, in my view, ‘acing’ the debate at the Bombyx forum. Their message resonated because it was grounded in equity, inclusion, and authentic connection. I was proud to support Ace, and their campaign reminded me of my own run for office two years ago — when hope met hard truths and the “spell and spillage” of manipulation prevailed.

Today, my focus and full support turn to Laurie Loisel, who I believe is the stronger candidate for far too many reasons to list in one letter. Like Tayloe, Laurie doesn’t just talk about community — she shows up for it. At an invitation to speak with Salvo residents, I observed her listening to residents’ fears, concerns, and hopes with empathy and humility. That moment mattered.

Loisel represents thoughtful leadership, not fear-based politics or empty promises, but steady, compassionate action rooted in respect for all Ward 3 residents.

This November, let’s make the right choice — the choice for a leader who listens, learns, and leads with integrity. Vote Laurie Loisel for Ward 3 City Council because caring is more than words; it’s action.
