We are writing to express our enthusiastic support for Salem Derby in his campaign for mayor of Easthampton. Salem is clearly the most qualified candidate with the most relevant experience to be the next mayor of our city.
He has been our City Council member for 22 years. In that time, he has always been accessible and responsive to the needs of Precinct 4 and for the city at large. He has served as the president and vice president of the City Council as well as chair of the public safety and ordinance committees. Salem has approached his public service by looking out for the best interest of all citizens of Easthampton. For 22 he has worked to update zoning and infrastructure to enable businesses to thrive. He has helped to bring arts and culture to our community. He has advocated for affordable housing and championed zoning changes to allow accessory dwelling units.
During his tenure on the council, Salem has built strong relationships with members of city government. He values the diversity of our growing city and respects and listens to all perspectives and points of view. He has been a true friend to teachers and the public schools. He has also been engaged with the business community offering support for business initiatives throughout the city. He is currently working on a plan to expand downtown parking as well as a plan to link the downtown area with the Pleasant Street parks and businesses. Public safety is also a top priority.
Salem Derby has earned a reputation for being pragmatic, level headed and for working collaboratively. He is a proven leader with a clear vision for the future of Easthampton. He is a person of the highest integrity, with the educational background and most relevant experience to move this city forward. In his short time as interim mayor, Salem is already making a positive impact on our city.
