- Col. Pomeroy’s regiment was reviewed in this town on Friday last. The appearance and discipline of the troops were very respectable. The firing of muskets after the troops were dismissed was illegal and disgraceful, and we are glad to hear that fines have been exacted in some cases.
- Since much inconvenience and danger have heretofore been experienced by the citizens who attend the annual fair, from the kindling of fires near the center of the town and the burning of crackers, etc., we learn with pleasure that the selectmen are about adopting efficient measures to prevent the recurrence of this evil in the future.

- Over three hundred people from this city took part in the parade of L’Union St. Jean Baptiste d’Amerique in Holyoke yesterday in connection with the 11th annual convention in that city, and the silver anniversary of the order.
- Homer C. Bliss of Florence, who has been nominated a director of the Chamber of Commerce, wishes to decline the honor. He is grateful to his friends who have expressed this confidence in his qualifications for the position, but having served as director in the past, Mr. Bliss feels the honor should be passed around.

- Sometime after school opens on Thursday, Nov. 6, a tornado is scheduled to hit John F. Kennedy Junior High School. At about the same time, a tanker truck carrying propane gas will tip over on Bridge Street, requiring the evacuation of the area. If all goes well, the two disasters should produce between 80 and 100 casualties. At least that is the way it is supposed to happen in the disaster “scenario” that local officials have prepared to test the city’s emergency and hospital services.
- Miss Florence Diner was evacuated about 7:25 Friday evening after a telephone bomb threat was received. City police and firemen were unable to locate a bomb in the building. According to police, a telephone called told diner personnel at 7:22 p.m. that a bomb would explode at 7:30. Police said that they have “a prime suspect” in the case.
