Thomas “Tom” Laprade

Hatfield, MA – Thomas “Tom” F. Laprade, 71, of Hatfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones after a brief illness, he confronted it with a quiet fortitude and grace.

He was born on November 28, 1953, in Northampton, MA to Diane (Brodeur) Hockman and the late Leonard Laprade.

Tom was a graduate of Easthampton High, the class of 1971. He progressed on finding a niche working as a carpenter, his adept precision to his craft kept his work in demand for many years before retirement. His polished craftsmanship can be found in homes and businesses all over the valley.

He met and fell in love with his wife Deborah “Debby” Michalowski, together they built their dream house in Hatfield where they raised their family. Debby predeceased him in 2019.

Early roots never left his blood with many of his lifelong friendships and interests stemming from his Easthampton youth. He relished any opportunity to go fishing, ice fishing, and turkey or white tail deer hunting, often at The Camp with the guys. Golf days with his brother Dave were always a highlight and had become priority since retirement, with a standing weekly tee time. Although Tom spent his days building/crafting domestic structures, he was always most at home outdoors or in the woods.

He is survived by two children, Jason Laprade and wife Jennifer, of FL, Sharon (Laprade) Bean and husband Dustin, of VT.

Thomas is grieved by his beloved mother, Diane Hockman of Easthampton, MA, and his brother, golfing buddy, and best friend David Laprade of Southampton, MA, his brother, Michael Laprade, of Easthampton, MA and sister, Jodi Laprade of Baltimore, MD.

Tom is remembered by five grandchildren: his eldest granddaughter Heather Cote, his housemate who kept him company before and after Debby’s passing, Hayley, Hawley and Dustin Bean Jr, of VT, and Jason Jr. (JJ) and Ella Laprade, of FL. As well as several nieces, nephews, extended and chosen family.

Calling hours will be Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 11AM – 1PM at the DROZDAL FUNERAL HOME, 120 Damon Rd, Northampton.

Burial service will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, pick a great day and go fishing!
