Benjamin Spencer has been my neighbor on Hospital Hill in Northampton for nearly 30 years. I always have found him to be friendly, thoughtful, and earnestly engaged in many issues of concern to our city. He was active on the Save Old Main committee which tried to prevent demolition of many historic buildings on the campus of the former Northampton State Hospital; he worked with other neighbors to prevent the building of a proposed dog kennel in the middle of our quiet neighborhood. And, we have worked together to ensure good outcomes for several new housing projects in our neighborhood.
I also want to acknowledge Benjamin’s concern for citywide issues. As he himself says: “I have a long track record of being engaged and collaborative in city matters. I have demonstrated a willingness to speak up and successfully advocate for what I believe in, and I want to help others do the same.” I appreciate his honest, practical, and reality-based approach to difficult issues.
