Samone Young scored a hat trick for the Easthampton girls soccer team in its 5-0 win over McCann Tech during the quarterfinal round of the Western Massachusetts Class C tournament on Wednesday.
Young added an assist for a four-point outing for the third-seeded Eagles, who will play the winner of No. 2 Monson and No. 7 Lenox in the semifinal round.
Arie Kuchyt and Noey Ryan also srruck for Easthampton, which improved to 9-6-2 overall.
Ryan and Liv O’Neil-Garvey combined for five saves as the Eagles’ goalies.
Class D
Hopkins 3, Ware 1 — Multi-point efforts from Olivia Earle (two goals) and Morgan Augustin (goal, assist) catapulted the Golden Hawks to the quarterfinal-round victory.
Hopkins will meet either No. 3 St. Mary’s or No. 6 Lee in the semifinal round.
Boys soccer
Class A
Northampton 5, East Longmeadow 1 — The Blue Devils spread the offense around as five different players found the back of the net in the quarterfinal-round victory.
Jasper Cantor, Will Senn-McNally, Derek Rivers, Kai Webster and Sam Busone scored for No. 1 Northampton, which led 3-1 at halftime.
Goalies Madden Hatoum and Matt Walkoย each picked up one save for the Blue Devils.
Class B
Pope Francis 2, South Hadley 1 — The Tigers hung around against the Cardinals, but ultimately finished one goal short on the scoreboard in the quarterfinal-round loss.
Anthony Adams scored an unassisted goal for South Hadley.
In net, Noah Carillon had 14 saves for the Tigers.
Class D
Gateway 2, Hoosac 1 — The sixth-seeded Gators beat the third-ranked Warriors in the quarterfinal-round stunner.
Bow Briggs and Andrew Chepurenko recorded the Gateway goals, which’ll play the winner of No. 2 Turners Falls and No. 7 Smith Academy in the semifinal round.
Gators goalie Zack Hess made nine saves in the win.
Field hockey
Class A
Frontier 4, East Longmeadow 1 — The Red Hawks punched their ticket to the Class A final after beating the Spartans at home.
Macy DeMaio (two goals), Ashlie Galenski and Haly Doucette-Kaplan scored for Frontier, while goalie Brooke Charest collected nine saves.
The Red Hawks will play No. 1 Longmeadow in the championship on Saturday at West Springfield at 5 p.m.
Class B
Southwick 1, Belchertown 0 — The Orioles were held off the board in their semifinal round loss to the Rams.
Belchertown hadn’t been shut out in any of its prior 18 regular-season games.
Class C
West Springfield 5, Hampshire 1 — The Raiders came up short in the semifinal round defeat against the top-seeded Bulldogs.
Hampshire sank to 7-10-1 on the season.
Volleyball
Class B
East Longmeadow 3, Frontier 1 — Twenty-six combined kills from Greta Hale and Caitlin Maio wasn’t enough as the Red Hawks were knocked out in the semifinal round of the Western Mass. tournament.
“Not the outcome we wanted, but tonight was some of the best volleyball Iโve seen my team play all season,” Frontier head coach Courtney Parent said. “I feel very proud to be their coach.”
Set scores concluded at 22-25, 25-17, 23-25, 16-25.
Class C
Mount Greylock 3, Smith Voc 1 — The Vikings forced the Mounties to earn each point in the semifinal round defeat.
Set scores were 23-25, 25-21, 23-25, 12-25 as Smith Voc fell for the first time in four matches.
Leah Franklin carried the Vikings with an ace, six blocks, two assists, three digs and five kills.
Non-Playoff Games
Girls soccer
Amherst 2, Chicopee Comp 2 — Zoriah Kenney and Beatrice Eggemeier provided the goals for the Hurricanes in its tie with the Colts.
Eggemeier evened the score 2-2 on a curved-in corner kick with about two minutes left in the game.
“Amherst girls continued to fight and focus their determination playing down by one [for] most of the game to tie it up with under two minutes to play,” Amherst head coach J.W. Benoit said. “Great effort and hard work.”
Volleyball
Pope Francis 3, Belchertown 1 — The Orioles let a 1-0 set lead slip away in the loss to the Cardinals.
Set scores came in at 27-25, 21-25, 21-25, 24-26.
Cassidy MacLean contributed a team-high 16 kills, while Olivia Skora had all 42 assists for Belchertown.
Tuesday Results
Belchertown 3, Holyoke 0 — Sharp defense powered the Orioles past the Purple Knights.
Belchertown finished with 68 total digs, led by Kaiya Cavanaugh’s 25.
The Orioles won with set scores of 25-18, 25-16, 26-24.
