Four area field hockey programs are set to embark on statewide playoff journeys as the MIAA released brackets for all four divisional, state tournaments on Tuesday.
Belchertown slotted into the Division 3 bracket, while Smith Academy, South Hadley and Frontier will compete in Division 4.
The Orioles snagged the No. 24 seed in the Division 3 pairings and will travel to No. 9 Saint Mary’s (Lynn) in the Round of 32. Belchertown (13-2-3) will look to hand the Spartans their first loss of the season in the showdown, which has yet to be scheduled, as of Tuesday evening.
The Orioles will look to shake off a 1-0 loss to Southwick from the Western Mass. Class B semifinals last week, when they take on Saint Mary’s (17-0-1) next.
The Tigers took the 29th seed in the Division 4 seedings and will have a tough task ahead when they battle No. 4 Sutton in the Round of 32.
South Hadley (12-6-0) advanced to the Western Mass. Class B final last weekend in its first season back as a varsity program in several years, but lost to Southwick, 2-0. The Tigers are scheduled to play Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m.
The Suzies (12-3-3) were a Final Four team in 2024, losing in the state semifinal to Monomoy.
The Falcons will meet up with Saint John Paul II (Hyannis) in the Round of 32 in a match yet to be scheduled, as of Tuesday evening. Smith (14-2-2) earned the 23rd seed while the Lions (9-5-1) come in as the 10th-ranked team in Division 4.
Last week, the Falcons dropped their most recent game in the Western Mass. Class B semifinal to South Hadley, 2-1.
Lastly, No. 5 Frontier, which grabbed the highest seed of area teams, will host No. 28 Stoneham on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m.
The Red Hawks (12-4-2) came up short in the Western Mass. Class A final in their 4-0 loss to Longmeadow last Saturday. The Spartans, Frontier’s upcoming opponent, went 1-11-6 during the regular season.
