AMHERST — Just two incumbents are earning endorsements from the Amherst-Pelham Education Association’s Representative Council, which has released a list of 11 candidates it is supporting for the 13-member Town Council and five-member School Committee.

In addition to recommending voters at Tuesday’s town election reelect At-Large Councilor Ellisha Walker, the union is supporting Allegra Clark for another of the three at-large positions. It is also supporting challengers Jillian Brevik and Vincent O’Connor in District 1, challengers Amber Cano-Martin and Jason Dorney in District 2 and challenger Patrick Drumm in District 3.

In addition to supporting incumbent Bridget Hynes for School Committee, the union is endorsing newcomers Esther Azar, Andrew Hart and Laura Jane Hunter for other seats on the panel.

In a statement released on behalf of the union, the reasoning is explained:

“The APEA sought candidates who will advocate for safe and equitable schools, a fair and sustainable funding system, and racial and gender justice. The APEA feels confident that these candidates will be open to listening to community concerns around schools, and aim to partner with educators who bring experience and expertise to their work with youth every day.”
