Worthington, MA – Grant Mayo Knapp 87 of Worthington Massachusetts passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025. Born on July 6, 1938 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Grant spent his entire life in Worthington where he grew up on the family farm and developed a lifelong appreciation for the land and simple joys of country living. A quiet man by nature Grant had a gift of conversation once it began – often leading to hours of story, storytelling, laughter, and wisdom shared.
Grant worked for many years at Strathmore paper company where he began on the mill floor and worked his way up to the role of supervisor. He also proudly served the town of Worthington as a member of the police force for 25 years, including 16 years as chief of police – a role in which he was known for his integrity, fairness and common presence.
He found joy in life, simple pleasure, pleasures – golfing, fishing, and spending time outdoors, but nothing brought in more happiness than being surrounded by his family. He especially cherished time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren who lit up his life. Grant is survived by his loving daughters, Joanne Blocker, Brenda Brodrick, and her husband Robert, Brodrick Junior and Sally Lemme. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Hannah and Nick Rogers, Amelia and Dan Perez, Marie and Nick Haas, Jackie and Russ Varney, Kaylene and Jesse Keetle and Megan Blocker. He was also blessed with great grandchildren, Desmond and Arthur Perez and Paul and Harper Varney.
He shared many wonderful years with his wife Patsy Knapp and they especially enjoyed time together at their condo in Florida where they made lasting memories with friends and family. Grant’s presence, quiet strength, and warmth will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 22nd at the Worthington Country Club, 113 Ridge Road, Worthington, MA. from 2-4pm. Please come and share your memories with us.
