Before people sign up to join the armed forces of the United States, they should think about what they might be ordered to do, and whether, in good conscience, they would do it.
The military and National Guard have many attractions, but joining could be a Faustian bargain.
Would you be willing to be sent to a place like Easthampton or Amherst to suppress a peaceful gathering of protesters? Would you want to use “non-lethal” weapons like tear gas and fire hoses on your fellow citizens?
Would you want to kill people sailing in international waters that might or might not be carrying illegal drugs?
Would you want to participate in an armed invasion of Venezuala?
These are things that people in the U.S. military might be ordered to do. Think carefully.
