Just checked, “NRA takes Massachusetts gun laws to court.” It seems that everyone except the majority of the American people are being heard. To be honest, in my dozen or so conversations with gun owners, about all agree that ordinary citizens should not own assault weapons, “undetactables,” bump stocks, and the like. However, these same folks fear that any attack on Second Amendment rights will lead to the end of all gun possession. Yet we all agree that the proliferation of weapons, mass murders, and general violence in our country is out of control. “But the NRA tells me …” The NRA of our fathers is long gone. They still want your support and money, but in return, you get propaganda, fear, and mistrust of any sensible firearm laws. Also, recall that the Second Amendment was written by men who couldn’t imagine our present weaponry and the carnage they have brought among our own people.
Something has got to be done, and in some homes, people are actually destroying their weapons — legally, safely, permanently, and with few tools. Selling one’s weapons would be a complete cop-out as those weapons go right back into circulation.
By ridding yourselves of assault weapons, etc., you know that nobody will ever breach your never-safe gun case to kill others. Your actions won’t change the Second Amendment and won’t violate any gun laws. If you must, keep your hunting rifle and “home invasion only” pistol. Best, you don’t have to tell anyone. It’s your business, not theirs. Please do your own search online for more information. For instance, I saw warnings that you must render the dangerous items incapable of either repair or morphing into another weapon. There are many trustworthy organizations that can help you, perhaps your own police.
But please, for the love of God, our kids, our souls, and common sense, unlock that weapons case, remove the above contents for destruction by reputable organizations, or destroy them yourself. Sounds radical, but it is far saner than our present disastrous status quo. Let’s do the right thing.
Lastly, for anyone nuts enough to think their arsenal would win a “war,” please know that, when outgunned, your opponent will probably cheat. Then only hate will win.
