STANLEY MIHALAK

Florence, MA – Stanley “Jim” Mihalak, Age 86, peacefully passed away at his home on January 1st surrounded by his family and best friend, his boxer Buddy. He lived in Northampton his whole life and was a graduate of Smith Vocational H.S.

He served in the US Coast Guard upon graduation, and then became a Northampton Firefighter in 1961. He retired as a Fire Captain in 1994. In the 1970s, he also owned a local trash business, Mihalak Trucking, which served Northampton and Easthampton residents.

Jim loved dogs, especially English Setters and Boxers. Jim was an avid golfer and candlepin bowler. He also enjoyed boating on the Connecticut River, hunting, fishing, and working in his yard.

Jim was predeceased by his wife, Patricia (Jochym) in 2009 and his grandson Bryan (Haugaard) in 2020. He is survived by his three children; Debra (Paul) Haugaard, Jim (Angella) Mihalak, and Kim (Michael) Broussard. He leaves behind 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Joanie (Karl) Kushi, his sister-in-law Irene (Emil) Laskowski and many beloved nieces and nephews.
