The Jan. 7 article “Reimagining the gas station for the electric age: EV hub opens in Northampton” states that “The majority of the costs for chargers were covered by a state program with National Grid.” This is not the whole truth, as National Grid passes this cost onto its customers via the Electric Vehicle Charge, which was $2.49 on my bill last month. In fact, there are five different charges related to renewable energy initiatives on every National Grid electric bill. Last month, these totaled $79.51 on my bill. I’m all for renewable energy — I have solar panels on my house and an EV. But it’s a lie to say that National Grid is paying for the transition to renewable energy when the company is passing these costs onto the consumer. National Grid — a company whose net worth is about $79 billion — isn’t paying for the transition to green energy. We are.
