The South Hadley girls basketball team picked up a prominent non-league victory after downing Hoosac Valley, 62-34, at home on Friday night.

The Tigers jumped out to a 16-5 lead after the the first quarter and never trailed to roll to the win.

Cara Dean dropped 21 as South Hadley’s top scorer while Taylor Bullough netted 14 points (7-of-9 from the free-throw line) and Simone Quinn added 10 points.

The Tigers have now won two of three following a recent five-game losing skid.

Boys basketball

Smith Voc 70, Franklin Tech 58 — Dom Sanchez managed 26 points to push the Vikings to their third win in a row.

Josh Cole also surpassed double figures with 15 points for Smith Voc, which went up 40-20 at halftime.

Hampshire 66, Southwick 53 — Make it four wins out of the Raiders’ last five following the victory against the Rams.

Four Hampshire players recorded double-digit point totals, with Vynce Carr leading the pack with 20.

Frontier 70, Smith Academy 28 — The Redhawks took control early in this one and never let up, handing the Falcons their sixth loss of the season.

Frontier raced out to a 24-5 lead after eight minutes, to cruise to its 10th win on the year.

Dean Gray grabbed 14 points to pace the Redhawks. Rowan Jeffress totaled eight points as Smith Academy’s highest scorer.

Athol 45, Hopkins 30 — The Bears couldn’t be contained in the Golden Hawks’ home defeat.

Chace Earle and Matt Vassallo combined for 23 points for Hopkins in the defeat.

Swimming

Easthampton 99, Hampden Charter 18 (girls) — The Eagles blew past the Wolves in Constitution league action in Chicopee.

Karolina Robak and Lauren Filipek each won multiple events for Easthampton. Robak took the 200 free (2:08.12) and the 100 butterfly (1:09.65), while Filipek was victorious in the 100 free (1:14.93) and the 100 backstroke (1:25.94).
