We’re so lucky to (still) have a local newspaper to help us keep up with community news. I have subscribed to the print version since moving here in 2001, and I read it daily. In addition to appreciating the news coverage and cultural content, I value the contributions of two of the Gazette’s columnists.

Jim Bridgman’s “A Look Back” keeps me connected to this area’s history and progress. It’s a way to understand what life was like in Northampton and surrounding towns long before I made it my home, and it illustrates that this vibrant community constantly changes. I’m happy to have been here long enough to remember many of the stories from the past quarter-century. I also enjoy reading current headlines and wondering which ones will make it into Jim’s column in the future.

“Speaking of Nature” by Bill Danielson is another favorite. Bill shares his insights on the beauty and diversity of the wildlife and open space in our area. I’ve loved learning about the bird species and other creatures he views from his Thinking Chair. He generously shares his knowledge and offers reminders of what we all could see if we took the time to go outside and look.

I’m grateful for these columnists and the entire Gazette team. Local journalism chronicles what’s special about this place. It keeps us connected to our community and each other.
