Three area cross country/track and field coaches earned MSTCA Coach of the Year honors for the 2025 season.
Amherst Regional’s Chris Gould earned the Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year award in the Division 4 girls division, while Ron Jacobs, the Hurricanes’ girls cross country coach, won the Cross Country Coach of the Year award in the Division 2 girls division.
Hampshire Regional’s Sue Tracy took the Cross Country Coach of the Year award in the Division 3 girls division.
Award winners were chosen by the MSTCA’s Outdoor Track and Field and Cross Country Committees. An award ceremony will be held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Roxbury on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m.
UMass alum Mike Babul’s jersey retired
North Attleboro High School honored the late Mike Babul, a 2000 UMass graduate and former four-year player on the Minutemen men’s basketball team, with a jersey retirement ceremony, earlier this week.
Babul put together a stellar high school career in which he earned Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year honors as well as McDonald’s All-American Top 50 recognition, all while tallying 1,423 career points.
At UMass, Babul was captain and received All-Defensive honors in the Atlantic 10 conference.
North Attleboro retired the No. 43 jersey Babul sported from 1992-96.
Babul passed away on Dec. 30, 2024, at age 47.
