The South Hadley boys basketball team gave Science & Tech a run for its money in its 55-51 loss in the Western Mass. Class B semifinal round in Springfield on Monday.

The No. 5 Tigers went into the top-seeded Cybercats’ territory and nearly pulled off the upset, hanging with the hosts for all four quarters of action.

These two teams met back on Jan. 21 in a game Science & Tech won decisively, 59-44.

South Hadley’s record sank to 10-10 following the semifinal defeat.

Amherst 72, Minnechaug 52 — The Hurricanes won comfortably against the Falcons in non-playoff action.

Mitchell Carey concluded with 26 points, including six made 3-pointers, while Gael Buford and Sam Woodruff each deposited 15 points for Amherst.

Hockey

Agawam 5, Amherst 4 (OT) — The Brownies netted the overtime game-winner to stun the Hurricanes in the Western Mass. Class B quarterfinals at Orr Rink.

Agawam–the fifth seed–entered the contest on a three-game losing streak, but picked up its second straight win against Amherst–the fourth seed–on the season on Monday.

The Hurricanes fell to 6-11-2 overall after the loss.
