I’d like to respond to the recent letter “Scoop the poop” [Gazette, March 2]. Please be aware that Smith Farms Fields (aka the dog park) is a privilege that dog walkers take very seriously and responsibly. Unfortunately, during the winter, some dog owners think the poop sinks in the snow so not to worry about it… this is unfortunate and very aggravating to the many of us who pick up after our pets. The letter writer should be aware that, in the spring, after all melting, several of us go around and pick up the winter droppings and help restore the beauty and cleanliness of the walk. This happens every year, much to our dismay, but we have figured out a solution. Patience is the key. We are fortunate to have Riverbend Animal Hospital supply a dispenser with bags, and USA Recycling picks up once a week. Both of these wonderful businesses have helped us maintain the responsible approach to exercising our pets and ourselves.
