Hampshire College was a “win, win, win” institution that mainly served as a dumping facility for an experiment gone wrong: Many progressive parents who embraced the “permissive way of rearing children” that had its start in the 1970, came to realize that something went wrong when their teenage kids turned into tetchy, unmanageable darklings that were very difficult to be around for long periods of time, so they sent/dumped their “experiment-gone-wrong'” kids at Hampshire College where there were no guidelines to follow. (1) The unmanageable kids were happy about this, (2) Hampshire College was $ happy about this and (3) so were the (phew!!) monied parents who sent their experiment-gone-wrong kids at Hampshire College.
So, it was a “win, win, win” situation. Sad to see it go. We live in exciting times.
