William Lambers’ April 13 guest column endorsing food aid as a solution to war blatantly omits mention of Israel within the context of the Middle East. Gaza is not “suffering from severe hunger because of Middle East conflicts,” it is suffering because Israel and the U.S. are actively blocking food aid. The entire region — Iran, Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, the Gulf States, and of course Palestine — is destabilized because of Israel’s persistent warmongering. These are serious omissions at a time when most news media are perpetuating the myth that food aid is getting into Gaza under a supposed “ceasefire” — none of which is accurate or true. Mr. Lambers’ simplistic solution completely overlooks the fundamental problem: Israel.
