- The recital hall of the University of Massachusetts Fine Arts Center will be dedicated Monday to the late Philip T. Bezanson in a concert of his music. Bezanson was the head of the music department from 1964 until 1973 when he returned to full-time teaching in the department until his death last year.
- Bell ringers will attempt a full peal on the Smith College change bells in the Center for the Performing Arts bell tower Saturday in honor of Alice B. Dickinson, dean of the college. Mrs. Dickinson, who will be one of the eight bell ringers for the peal, will end her term as dean July 31, and will return to teaching in the college’s mathematics department after a year’s sabbatical leave.

- Northampton planners gave a thumbs-up Thursday to a proposed redevelopment of the former Hill and Dale mall on King Street that includes a natural-foods market and, apparently, two national chains. The Planning Board โ with one member saying he did so reluctantly โ granted a special permit and site plan that expands and renovates the former Price Chopper building.
- The entire faculty and staff at Northampton High School have spent the past 2.5 years preparing for a four-day visit that begins Sunday. That morning, a group of 14 teachers, principals and superintendents from around New England will arrive at the high school to inspect it as part of its accreditation with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

- Ten-year-old Mason Neveu of Goshen was honored Tuesday evening by the state Department of Fire Services Public Safety Unit, the Massachusetts House of Representatives and the Goshen Fire Department for his rescue of a lost child in the woods of Ashfield last month.
- SIP Cafe and Coffee Bar on Crafts Avenue will close for business Saturday. But the business owner said Tuesday the closing is only temporary. “We’d like to find somebody else who’d like to run a similar business in the space,” said Michele Curry, who opened the business with her husband, Eugene Ferrer, in 2011.
