The Northampton Community Rowing team obtained four first-place finishes during Sunday’s Amber Zapatka Memorial Regatta in Lowell.

The women’s junior first, second and third varsity 4+ squads all grabbed first, while the men’s first varsity 4+ group earned first. The women’s first varsity won in 7:16.427 and the men’s first varsity recorded a winning time of 6:41.751.

A 4+ race includes four sweep-rowers and a coxswain.

The women’s junior first varsity 4+ will compete at the regional championships this weekend in West Windsor, N.J.

Youth baseball

The Amherst Hurricanes beat Northampton, 11-6, in Koufax Division play in the Western Mass Suburban Baseball League on Friday.

Amherst trailed through four innings, then erupted for eight runs in the top of the fifth to cement its lead for good.

Ian Kim and Sean Lucien were the Hurricanes’ top performers at the plate, each smacking three hits.

Sam Adams-Margotta and Jonah Sommers combined for nine strikeouts on the hill for the Amherst, which improved to 3-0 overall.

The Hurricanes will travel to Palmer next for a road matchup with the Cyclones. First pitch is set for 5:45 at Legion Field.
