Amherst, MA – Laura Meyer, died at home on Saturday, May 9, at the age of 77. Loving mother of Louis Insel and Nathaniel Insel who predeceased her. Sister of Alison Dreizen and friendly to everyone she met. She had a lifelong passion for learning, having graduated from Cornell University in 1970 and completing three masters degrees. Even into her eighth decade, she was pursuing a doctorate in American Literature. Her love of learning was only eclipsed by her passion for teaching. Throughout her more than 50 years as an educator, she taught at elementary, high school, college and continuing adult education levels. She was passionate about teaching English as a second language to members of the Hispanic community, especially immigrants with limited means for whom she started and ran a night school. She was a deeply spiritual person with unwavering devotion to her faith. In lieu of flowers, donations to Catholic Charities would be much appreciated. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday May 19 at 10am at the Most Holy Redeemer Church in Hadley. LAURA MEYER
