For the first time since 1986, the UMass men’s ultimate team are national champions.

Nicknamed ‘Zoodisc’, UMass used a strong second half to propel past Carleton College, nabbing the Division I title by a 15-11 final score in Rockford, Ill. on Sunday. UMass scored eight goals following the break to clip its opponents from Minnesota.

Zoodisc entered the final as the seventh seed, while Carleton was favored as the second seed.

UMass won all six of its prior contests in the tournament to earn a spot in the final against the defending champions. Zoodisc last reached the national championship in 2023.

Ethan Lieman led UMass in goals (19) and points (30) in the championship tournament.

Zoodisc’s defense was stellar throughout the tournament as 11 goals against was the most it allowed in a single game.
