Northampton, MA – Wenda W. Field died peacefully on May 25, 2026, Memorial Day, with Leonard Cohen’s “Dance Me to the End of Love” playing and her dear friend Kathy Itterly by her side. She was 85.
She is survived by her sister, Laura Pearson, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John Field.
Wendy was a well-known figure in her Oak Street neighborhood, recognized for her devoted stewardship of the land. She worked tirelessly to remove invasive species and pick up trash, caring deeply for the natural beauty around her. Neighbors often saw her in her familiar “uniform” – blue striped overalls, a floppy sunhat, and accompanied by her beloved white dog, Duncan, whose white coat matched Wendy’s white pigtails.
Wendy loved music and dancing and was fortunate to spend the past eighteen months at The Gardens at Rockridge, where she delighted in the live music offered each day. From the first note, she would begin dancing, her arms flowing rhythmically, bringing smiles to staff, residents, and visitors alike.
Deep gratitude is extended to the staff at The Gardens and the Fisher Home for their extraordinary care and the warm, homelike atmosphere they created for Wendy.
Wendy had a gentle soul and a deep appreciation for nature and animals above all else. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
