The June 1 guest column [“The missing piece in Northampton’s future: A plan for economic growth”] is very important. We need businesses in our city to supply a tax base but more importantly employment as well as shops to sustain Main Street where we have to many closed stores. Why are we not working with the many downtown businesses that complain about Picture Main Street, some even expressing concerns about retribution? Why are our city officials not declaring outrage over the attacks on L3Harris, where protesters blame an industry needed for our country’s protection when it is the actions of our government which should instead be the object of protest. We need city leaders to help us grow, together. We have too many problems that need to be addressed by working together.
