Dolores Anne Suozzo

Albany, NY – Dolores Anne Suozzo (nรฉe McCann), of Albany, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, May 8, 2026, just two months shy of her 101st birthday. Born in Queens, New York, on July 9, 1925, Dolores was the daughter of Francis J. McCann and Mary A. McCann (nรฉe Sheehan). At 21, she married Robert J. Suozzo, with whom she shared 64 happy years of marriage. Together they built a rich and loving life centered around family, friendship, and community. Dolores was the devoted mother of nine children, a loyal friend to many, and the beloved wife of a husband who adored her beyond measure.

Dolores was known for her quick Irish wit, a generous spirit, a ready smile, and a fiercely strong will. In her younger years, she delighted in reading, cooking, gardening, tennis, dancing, bridge, and travel, especially accompanying her husband on medical conferences around the world. Summers spent with family on Lake George were among her greatest joys.

In later years, Dolores remained active as a volunteer at Avila Retirement Community, where her warmth and energy touched many lives. Much of her independence gradually faded following a stroke five years ago that led to dementia. Yet even in recent weeks, she could still explain the nuances of a bridge hand and took pleasure in gentler comforts, and the loving attention so freely given by her children and caregivers.

She is survived by eight children and their spouses: Mary Anne Henderson (Peter) of Ontario, Canada; Sheila Berman (widow of Robert J. Suozzo) of Clifton Park, NY; Mark Suozzo (Karen Mooney) of New York, NY, Elizabeth Suozzo (Christophe Golรฉ) of Northampton, MA; Patricia (Carlo) Pasquino of Sicily, Italy; Frank Suozzo (Geri Smith) of Naples, FL; Peter Suozzo (Supannee Klaharn) of Huletts Landing, NY; David Suozzo (Stephanie Mah) of Slingerlands, NY; and Margaret Suozzo (Tom Dillon) of Mountain View, CA. She is also survived by her beloved cousin, Joan Graham of Jeffersonville, NY, as well as 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband Robert John Suozzo, son Robert Suozzo, and her brother, Francis J. McCann.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Hedy Migden, MD – Dolores’ physician and cherished friend of many years – as well as to Dolores’ extraordinary care team, who became an extension of her family during the last five years of her life. Their love, compassion, support, and laughter brought comfort and joy to Dolores and greatly enriched her final years. The family is also deeply grateful to The Community Hospice of Albany for the compassionate care and kindness provided during her final months.

Dolores’ kindness, humor, resilience, and generous spirit will be deeply missed and remembered. Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities or The Community Hospice.
