In JM Sorrell’s June 3 column [“By any means necessary?”] she said she would vote for Susan Collins because of character flaws in her opponent Graham Platner. Though he may be an imperfect candidate, I believe we cannot let a Republican candidate win in Maine. That eventuality could easily help the Republicans maintain their majority in the Senate.

In these very troubling times where our democracy is at stake, this would be a disaster. Ms. Collins has shown support around 95% of the time for President Donald Trump’s agenda. I am deeply concerned that our country will not survive two more years of Trump if he continues with the support of Congress. His corrupt behavior and incredibly authoritarian actions are damaging not only the U.S. but the world.
