Amherst, MA – Myrtle Mallinger, who turned 99 on June 2nd, passed away on 6/8/2026 at the Center for Extended Care in Amherst.
Born in New York City, Myrtle was the daughter of the late Francis (Lewis) and Dr. Maxwell Booxbaum. She was raised in Mount Vernon, New York, the youngest of three children. In 1958, she married her beloved husband, Horace, and together they built a life centered on family.
Myrtle worked for many years as a paraprofessional in the Stamford, Connecticut school system, where she was known for her dedication and care for students.
She was predeceased by her husband, Horace Mallinger; her son, Robert Mallinger Perelman; her sister, Helen Koplik; and her brother, Donald Booxbaum.
Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Ronnie Booxbaum of Amherst; her grandson, Michael Sardinas of Putney, Vermont; her granddaughter, Amy Booxbaum of Natick; four great-grandchildren.
Burial will take place at Sharon Gardens Cemetery in Valhalla, New York. Services will be private. Memorial Donations can be made to any animal organization in Myrtle’s memory.
