Disappointed in Rep. Gomez
I’m disappointed to hear that Rep. Homar Gomez considers himself a fan of Proposition 2½. Over 75% of his constituents live in a community that needed to pass an override to avoid massively underserving their residents. This is funding for basic public services for everyone living in the community, and the law as it is working right now is clearly not providing municipalities with a way to deal with the inflation that has occurred since it was implemented in 1982.
Rep. Gomez should be working on policy changes at the statewide level to ensure that schools and municipalities are funded in such a way that residents can rely on high quality schools, police, public works, and municipal functions, without driving out seniors living on a fixed income, no matter where they happen to live. Unlike those of us at the city level, Rep. Gomez has the ability to push for these changes in the Legislature. I’m looking forward to seeing more action from him.
