  • Dr. William H. Truswell IV, 30, is joining the practice of Dr. Russell F. Gervais of 51 Locust St. He will specialize in facial plastic surgery and ear, nose and throat care. Truswell is a graduate of the College of Medicine of New Jersey and recently completed a residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington.ย 
  • Edward A. McColgan today officially resigned as executive director of the Massachusetts Bicentennial Commission to devote full time to his campaign for congressman from the First Congressional District. McColgan served as executive director of the Massachusetts Bicentennial since his appointment in January 1974.ย

  • A memorial garden in memory of the late Joanne Lobdell was dedicated Sunday outside the Puchalski Municipal Building in Northampton. Lobdell, a popular city tax collector, died last July after a brief sudden illness.ย 
  • Acting Gov. Jane M. Swift has canceled a $150 million development at the foot of Mount Greylock in Adams, a project she had backed as a state Senator representing Berkshire County. The project, which was to include $12 million in state funds, โ€œwill not move forward,โ€ Swift spokesman Jason Kauppi confirmed Friday.ย

  • Northampton announced Friday it has purchased 114 acres of Burtโ€™s Bog Greenway, which it had long sought as a conservation area. The acreage extends from Burts Pit Road to Woods Road, Florence Road, and Sandy Hill Road.ย 
  • Demonstrations to raise awareness of sexual harassment continued Friday at JFK Middle School. As about 100 seventh graders walked to Look Park for a school trip, about 10 in the group held signs with messages like, โ€œOur bodies, our voices, our choices: respect them.โ€ย
